Pick Education - Musical Instrument Donation Program
4

Website

The Idea

GearPipe's 'Pick Education' program will make it easy for musicians to donate musical instruments and accessories to youth who want to express themselves through music, but do not have the financial means to purchase gear.

The Specifics

GearPipe.com will use the Good Maker grant as seed money to begin our ‘Pick Education’ program. This program aims to get musical instruments and accessories back into the hands of children. To achieve this goal, for every product purchased on GearPipe.com, we will donate a similar product to music education programs nationwide.

We will start with guitar picks and then expand to a full line of instruments and accessories. Specifically, the $2,500 will pay for the first product inventory, a marketing program targeted towards musicians and school/community music education programs, and the development of future products.

We deserve this grant because it will be used to plant the seeds of a sustainable, long term, self sufficient program.

Let's hold ourselves responsible for our children's opportunities. We can support programs like this and know we're doing the right thing for our kids. There are very few activities that can teach structure, teamwork, and simultaneously, individuality, like music can. Let us help a few more future whatever-they-choose-to-bes learn these skills in a way that is enjoyable for everyone involved.

The Pick Education program is a noble and generous start. What attracts the most attention and grants is the establishment of free or low-cost Music Programs in local communities. One way to accomplish this is to have local musicians volunteer their time to teach. The students may borrow donated instruments while learning, for a limited time, and receive free lessons. There's money out there of these types of Community Education programs. Peace Fernando Rodriguez

Great idea, so many school music programs have been cut, my son volunteers his time teaching kids how to play guitar, bass and drums at school and has to bring his own instruments to teach the kids. I would rather see kids playing an instrument than playing video games. Thanks for doing this, very cool!

Kudos to Jeremy and Randy, who are concerned about the less fortunate, and have founded this plan to help them discover the magic and wonder that music provides to us all. I wish it had been I who had come up with this idea and I fully support it. If the people who are the final decision makers would sit down with me for half an hour, I believe I could convince them as to why this idea deserves the funding it needs so badly. Considering many of the alternatives to the failure to provide awe, wonder and a possible crime and drug-free future, one would think this a no-brainer for the powers who make these important decisions. I can attest that were it not for music in my life at a young age (13 yrs. old) I am certain I would never have had the rich and beautiful life I've been privy to. And I wouldn't have brightened so many others' lives with my gift. I wish y'all the very best in your endeavor, and hope that at the least, it moves the conversation about what to do for today's forgotten and misbegotten children, who are the future of this planet.

This idea is simple enough to promote. It's small enough to be realistic. My favorite thing is that it is inclusive. Most of the other ideas that I have seen are aimed at specific communities. This idea deserves to win. If it doesn't, don't let it die. A good idea will succeed with or without this contest.

That's a great way to put it! I'm all for non-profits, but you end up going back to the same people every year, asking for more money. I think this is a more sustainable program. Every time you someone buys a guitar, or a snare drum, or a set of strings, one goes to someone in need. I appreciate your vote!
