The Idea

Girls Rock Boston (GRCB) is a non-profit, all-women, volunteer-driven organization, offering music instruction (drums, bass, vocals, keyboards, and guitar) and mentorship to foster self-reliance and self-esteem in young girls and women—the only program of its kind in the Greater Boston area.

The Specifics

Younger girls are rarely encouraged to explore self expressive creative outlets that are not tied to body image and are also less likely to be given access to musical and technical instruction or equipment.

During each session, girls between the ages of 8 and 16 form a band, write original songs, and perform live at a sold out rock venue – in just one week! Our ability to offer accessible programs relies on our ability to provide instruments and equipment for 60 girls per session.

Winning this challenge would provide us with the funding to outfit 1 entire band with quality instruments and equipment, tailored to their individual needs, creating the best opportunity for each band to create their own sound and be their own rock heroes!
